Born in New York City amidst the excitement and turbulence of the sixties, the legendary New Swing Sextet (NSS) made its professional debut performing in the Singer Bowl at the last New York World's Fair in 1965. The band, which was privileged to regularly perform with and get its musical education from all the great New York bands playing in that golden era of Latin music, has been a popular and innovative exponent of Latin jazz, salsa and pop music for over four decades through harmonized vocals, piano, vibes, bass and Latin percussion.

Henry Knowles the internationally renowned deejay, and executive producer of NSS's latest CD, states: "Their music is smooth tempoed, not too fast, danceable and club oriented. Today, latin music is truly international, and there are more non-Latinos dancing to it than anyone else," he underscores. That is attested by the growing demand of Salsa Congresses globally where dancers meet, compete or just shine. And NSS is a favorite among these dancers. Firing up the dance floors wherever they perform around the world, NSS has gained international popularity and recognition.

Karibe Mambo is an eight-piece Latin band that has set on fire the Connecticut area stages with a unique sound. Although we have only been together since 2005, our band members are an ensemble of seasoned musicians who have played with some of the best musical groups in the Northeast region. On stage we project a powerful and energetic sound, specializing in Caribbean music - Salsa, Cha-cha-cha, Bolero and Merengue. When you hear and see us perform, you will find it difficult to keep still, since we are first and foremost a dance band.

We are not just your average group playing our instruments on a stage, we are also entertainers that will keep you engaged in the performance tapping your feet, clapping your hands and, before you know it, we'll even have you irresistibly moving your body to our spicy beats.

Karibe Mambo is led by Puerto Rican born lead singer Orlando Ortiz, a seasoned professional that started his musical career more than a decade ago in Texas. "There's nothing more fulfilling as a performer than to watch an audience fully enjoying our performances without holding back," says Ortiz. "It is especially gratifying to observe those of various ethnic backgrounds, who may or may not fully know or understand the history of the Hispanic musical culture, enjoy our music." Although this is a small band, the statement "great things come in small packages" applies.

Karibe Mambo is well known in the Connecticut area, where you can catch us at the major festivals, night clubs and private functions. To find out where you can see us in the following months, please see our calendar page. We hope to see you soon on the dance floor.
